Smart Box
As part of our unit on 'how do we learn best' we created individual identification cards to go into our 'room 18 smart box.' On the identification card there was....
1. photo
2. what smarts we are
3. house colour
4. what we would like to do when we grow up

Currently, this box is travelling around the school to different classrooms. Room 22 were so proud of our efforts that they all wrote letters to us. Have a listen to a few examples of what they wrote.

Botanic Gardens Afternoon
What a wonderful, sunny day we had at the Botanic Gardens last Thursday. It was great learning outside in the park, especially having Park Rangers to teach us about the environment. Our activities were...
  • take a blind folded friend on a tree walk and describe the tree
  • bug and insect hunt with a microscope
  • tree and insect game with our parents
  • puppets and story - learning about keeping the park clean
Thank you to all the wonderful parents for helping transport us all over to to the Botanic Gardens and helping out with the groups!!

'StoryBird' Fun
Meet My Friends by room182012 on Storybird
In week nine, children will be learning to use the 'StoryBird' website - http://storybird.com.
They will be completing the "Meet My Friends" story (above) in pairs. They need to drag and drop different characters into the page and write a couple of sentences about each in the text box that comes up.
For this 'StoryBird', they will be using the illustrator, Paul McDougall. He can be found by clicking on the "Meet My Friends" story and then click on illustrator, Paul McDougal. If they wish to save because they have done a great job, please make sure that they do not publish their work. Keep it unpublished until it has been checked at school and then it will be published. Our Class Login and PasswordLogin - room182012Password - stalbans18

Certificates Week 6

What Ways Do We Learn Best?

Visual Language
This term we are exploring the different features of picture books. When reading stories at home you could talk about the....

- Author / Illustrator
- Layout
- Size of text and pictures
- Amount of text in relation to picture
- Use of colour
- Special effects e.g. construction, pop ups, kinesthetic
- Purpose: entertain and inform
- Audience

Last week we read 'Our Big Blue Sofa' by Tim HopGood. We created our own imaginary stories about where we would travel to on the big blue sofa. This week we will create a textured picture to accompany our writing.

Towards the end of term we will write an ending to a story that Miss Campbell has started. Using 'StoryBird' we will add text and characters to the website using different features of picture books.

Investigate 'StoryBird' at home.
